Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra state Chapter has urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to consider providing an Olympic standard stadium for the people of the state.

The body also called on the governor to rejig the sports sector and review the reward system for sportsmen and women to encourage more youths to engage in sports as a means of livelihood.

In a communique issued at the end of its Congress and signed by its Chairman, Chimezie Anaso and the Secretary, Uche Ndeke, SWAN commended Governor Soludo for his investment in sports as well as for establishing Solution Football Club, a state owned club in Anambra state.

It also called on him to position the club for enhanced visibility, wider acceptability and viable marketability.

SWAN noted that the venue proposed for Awka stadium has been reduced to a football pitch due to the ‘Fun City’ project, another laudable public interest facility and called on the government to consider an Olympic sized stadium for sporting activities.

The Sports writers also commended Mr Tony Nezianya, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Olympic Committee and other sports icons from Anambra Chapter on their deserved recognition for outstanding contributions to sports journalism during the 60th anniversary of SWAN in Abuja.

It appealed to Governor Soludo to consider holding a reception for them and other sports ICONs as worthy ambassadors of the state, while restating its commitment to neutrality, objectivity and protection of minority voices for sustainability development of sports in Anambra.

SWAN appreciated its national leadership under Isaiah Benjamin for the purposeful and result oriented administration that has earned the Association a deserved place in Nigeria sports map.
