The pilot phase of the Bio-Gas programme aimed at transforming waste into clean renewable energy for Abia residents is to be launched by the state government.
Announcing this to Newsmen at the Banquet Hall, Government House Umuahia during this year’s first Media Parley “Tagged Governor Otti speaks”, Governor Alex Otti said the programme would be launched at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.
The Governor who noted that the Abia State Electricity Regulation Authority had taken over from the National Electricity Regulation Commission explained that the essence was to ensure that the state is independent and enjoys sufficient energy.
In the area of tackling the deficit Housing challenges in Umuahia Metropolis, Governor Otti said that arrangements have been concluded to commence the construction the Pocket Layout Housing Construction, for civil servants and two housing Estates all in Umuahia.
On health, Governor Otti said the state government was intentional about health care and ensuring affordable medical facilities for the residents pointing out that under the first phase of project Ekwueme, 200 Primary Health Care Centres have been renovated and equipped with altra modern facilities.
While pledging that the state government would continue it’s best to ensure that education is made available and affordable to every Nigerian residing in the state, Governor Otti explained that reconstruction projects were in progress at different institutions to upgrade to acceptable standards.
He announced that the enrolment in Public Schools had risen sharply following reforms adding that reports from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education show that enrolment had moved from 117,000 a year ago to over 300,000 as at the end of December 2025.
The Governor also announced the extension of free services of the first pilot Electric Green Shuttle buses to the end February 2026.
