Abia State Government has renovated and equipped over one hundred Primary Health Centres in the state with modern equipment to improve the health welfare of the residents.

Governor Alex Otti stated this at the inauguration of Eziama Ubakala Primary Health Centre in Umuahia South Local Government Area of the state

The Governor represented by the Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, explained the equipment include the point-of-care auto scans, malaria and typhoid diagnostic machines, multi-parameter monitors as well as automated external defibrillator to revive cardiac arrest patients.

He pledged consistent investments and reforms in the healthcare sectors.

According to him, at the beginning of his administration, Abia State ranked 36th out of 36 states in primary health care delivery and expressed joy that the sector had improved.

Professor Uche said the functioning of the health centre marked another milestone in the administration’s commitment to revitalize the state’s primary health care system.

He encouraged residents to register with the state health insurance scheme, noting that registration was free for children under six and adults above 70 to have access to affordable care at the facility.

He also urged residents to patronise licensed pharmacies and avoid quackery, assuring that the government would not compromise the health standards of the people.

Earlier, the Health Authority Secretary for Umuahia South LGA, Mrs. Eucharia Igwe, commended Governor Otti for keeping to his campaign promise of improving health care in Abia state.

She urged residents to cooperate with health workers and make good use of the new facility.

In a separate goodwill message the traditional ruler of Eziama Ubakala, Eze Gabriel Okenwa, and the President General of the community, Elder Chikamnaele Eluwa, described the project as a “new dawn project for the community.

They said that the health centre stands as a testament to Governor Otti’s unwavering commitment to grassroots development and quality healthcare, adding that it would save countless lives and bring relief to their people who had long struggled to access good medical care.
