Hausa leaders in the South-south and South-east have converged in Umuahia the Abia state capital to brainstorm on matters aimed at improving the welfare of their host communities.

Speaking to Newsmen after a two-day emergency meeting of the 11 Royal leaders, the Chairman Northern Traditional Rulers Council for South-South and South-East Regions, Sarki Alhaji Yaro Danladi, pledged the support of the leaders to security agencies and state governments to tackle security challenges across the regions.

Sarki Danladi, who is also the leader of the Hausa Community in Abia state said the council resolved that northern communities would work closely with state governors, host communities and security agencies to promote peace and harmony.

The traditional ruler urged youths of northern communities in the regions to respect the laws of their host states and live in peace with their neighbours

Contributing, the Sarkin Hausawan Enugu state, Alhaji Abubakar Sambo, restated the determination of the council to strengthen peace, security, cooperation and welfare in the South-East and South-South regions.
Sarkin Sambo, who is also the National Vice Chairman of the Intertribal Traditional Leaders Association of Nigeria, noted the council’s desire to improve relations with host communities and consolidating the peaceful coexistence in the regions.

In his remarks, the Head of the Hausa Muslim Umma in Cross River state, Alhaji Garba Lawan, said that Hausa community had continued to enjoy a cordial relationship with host communities and state governments over the years and stressed that Hausa community had benefited from security protection and other forms of support from state governments in the regions, describing it as evidence of sustained peaceful coexistence.

While reacting to concerns over the ill activities of some scavengers in the zones, Alhaji Lawan explained that the trade was not exclusive to Northerners but some indigenous persons were also involved and pointed out that the leaders had consistently sensitized its members on proper conduct through regular awareness campaigns, particularly during their daily prayers.
