Residents of Awka the Anambra state capital and environs on Tuesday witnessed the first rainfall for the year 2026.
The rain which started at about half past nine in the evening lasted hours with several wInds and thunderous sounds.
Radio Nigeria observed that residents woke up with some sort of excitement and relief as they narrated how they slept under the cool breeze that followed the rain.
One of them, Miss Amara Okolibe said witnessing the first rain in the year was like a blessing from God to humanity and even the plants.
According to her, she can now start to enjoy some fruits like mango, Udala ( African Star Apple )and oranges as the rains will make impact on them ,
For Mr Mike Okotie, the rain was a mixed blessings as some persons who were outside to watch Arsenal versus Chelsea match came home to scoop water as they left their windows open earlier due to excessive hot weather condition.
Some road portions at Ezinifite Okpuno, in Awka South Local Government area were also washed away by the rain which forced some motorists to look for alternative routes.
Radio Nigeria correspondent Uche Ndeke who went round Awka after the rainfall reports that the major roads remained clean owing to the sensitization by the Governor Chukwuma Soludo led government for residents to disilt their drains for easy water flow.
