The Federal government says it is committed to collaborating with the state and local governments in making qualitative healthcare accessible to the people.

The Director-General, National Health Insurance Authority, NHIA, Dr Kelechi Ohiri stated this in a message to an event marking this year’s Universal Health Coverage Day, in Enugu.

Dr Ohiri represented by the Enugu State Co-ordinator National Health Insurance Authority, Dr Ken Ogbu commended the Enugu state Governor, Dr Peter Mbah and the Chairman, Enugu East Local Government Area, Pastor Beloved-Dan Obi-Anike for their giant strides in providing free and qualitative healthcare to the people, especially the vulnerable persons and persons in rural and hard to reach areas, noting that the AWARDS given to them were well deserved.

He equally encouraged the Enugu State Agency for Universal Health Coverage led by its Executive Secretary, Dr Edith Okolo to continue with the good works she is doing by ensuring sustained provision of drugs at the primary healthcenters.

Speaking on the occasion, the Executive Secretary, Enugu State Agency for Universal Health Coverage, Dr Edith Okolo noted that the mandate of the Agency is to promote, regulate,supervise and ensure the effective administration of the Enugu State Universal Health Coverage scheme.

Dr Okolo noted that what necessitated the Grand Champion of Universal Health Coverage Award Bestowed on the Executive Chairman, Enugu East Local Area, Pastor Beloved-Dan Obi-Anike, was the Chairman’s care for his people through his numerous Health interventions programmes and free healthcare coverage for thousands of vulnerable people and the aged in the communities.

Responding, the Executive Chairman Enugu East Local Government Area, Pastor Beloved-Dan Obi-Anike representated by Secretary of the council, Mr Uche Mbaeke noted that the partnership between the council and the Health Agency is a win win one, thanking the Agency for the Award bestowed on him.

Pastor Beloved-Dan Obi-Anike stated the sustained commitment of his administration to the wellbeing of the people.

He noted that the theme of this year’s Universal Health Coverage Day which is Quality Health Care For all at an Affordable Cost is a reminder that qualitative and affordable healthcare accessible to the people is of critical importance.
