The Association of Local Government of Nigeria in Abia State has reaffirms its commitment to supporting policies and programmes aimed at strengthen local governance, deepen institutional development, and improve the quality of life of citizens across all local government areas in the state.

The Chairman of the Association in Abia state, Mr Chinedu Ekeke made the remarks while speaking to Newsmen at the Government House in Umuahia.

The Association said it recognised and respects the constitutional rights of all citizens to freedom of expression and political association as guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria following the political development in the state.

According to the ALGON Chairman , the members have taken note of recent public statements and political meetings allegedly convened by past governors and associates who were unsettled by the present progress enjoying in the State.

He noted that as custodians of grassroots governors, members of ALGON, were in constant interaction with communities and reaffirmed public confidence on the Governor’s performance since his assumption in office.

While maintaining that a democratic system leadership is determined by performance, Mr Okeke noted that every project executed, services delivered sets a new standard of governance.

The Association thereby called on all political actors, past and present, to engage constructively by presenting ideas, policies, and alternative visions capable of advancing development, unity, and stability in Abia State, rather than raining distracting statements.

The ALGON however passed the vote of confidence on Governor Alex Otti, stressing his commitment to restoring integrity, efficiency, and service delivery to the residents

Answering questions from Newsmen on local government autonomy, the ALGON Chairman debunked the alleged hijack of local government allocations stressing that federal government the shares allocation to both the states and the local governments.
