Abia state government says plans are underway to construct quarters for medical personnel in all the renovated Primary Healthcare Facilities across the state.

Governor Alex Otti made this known during the commissioning of the renovated Primary Healthcare Centre in Agbama 1, Olokoro, Umuahia south local government area of Abia state.

Represented by the Director, Medical Services in the Ministry of Health, Dr Borke Akwale, the governor explained that the essence of providing accommodation in all the Primary Healthcare Centres was to ensure twenty hours service to the people.

Governor Otti said the success recorded in the health sector was as a result of the state of emergency he declared in the sector on assumption of office in 2023 and encouraged residents of the state to patronize the facilities for adequate health care delivery.

On his part, the Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, represented by the Director, Abia State Specialist Hospital and Diagnostics Center, Dr Chimezie Okwuonu, noted that the Healthcare Centre was well equipped with modern health facility and medical personnel and tasked the community to ensure its protection.

In his remarks, the traditional ruler of Agbama Olokoro Autonomous Community, Eze Cajetan Ifeanacho expressed gratitude to the state government for capturing the community in the first phase of the project and assured the governor of their continued support.

Correspondent reports that highpoint of the ceremony was the free medical outreach to residents of the community.
