A joint security Taskforce and surveillance along the Aba-Owerri expressway from Owerrinta in Abia State to Owerri the Imo State capital and beyond has been launched to tackle security threats on the highway.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the Abia state Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma, explained that the launch was resolved during an emergency strategic security meeting at the Imo State Government Owerri House, between Governor Alex Otti of Abia state and Senator Hope Uzodinma of the State.

The statement said the decision followed the recent attacks by criminals on motorists along the expressway to perpetrate all kinds of criminal activities especially as festive periods approach.

It further explained that the Joint security operatives include the Soldiers, Naval Personnel, Police Officers, DSS Personnel and other Government Security Agencies.

While explaining that there would be 24 hours operational services by the Joint security Taskforce, Governor Otti commended the Imo state Governor for arresting the criminals who carried out an attack on his advanced team and other passengers on the Expressway recently.

The two Governors while assuring citizens plying the road and those returning home for Christmas of their safety they warned stiffer consequences for any criminal caught on the road perpetrating crime.
