Abia state government has reaffirmed its resolve to partner with any responsive organisations or individuals to explore collaborative opportunities in key sectors of the economy.
Governor Alex Otti stated this when he received a delegation led by the 75th Governor of Delaware of United States of America Dr Bethany Hall-Long who was at the Government House Umuahia to discuss potential areas of cooperation with the state.
Governor Otti pointed out that the people of Abia, like other Igbo communities, do not rely on handouts but seek infrastructure and an enabling environment to thrive in business.
He noted that a partnership with Delaware would bring mutual benefits, especially in creating economic opportunities for the people.
Governor Otti who explained the rationale behind the defraying of long-standing pension arrears, said that it was aimed at stimulating the local economy by putting money directly into the hands of citizens.
The Governor also outlined the significant strides his administration has made in the areas of Education and Healthcare, including the provision of free and compulsory basic education, the employment of thousands of teachers, and the retrofitting of Healthcare Facilities across the State.
In her address , the Governor of the State of Delaware, a former legislator and Professor of Nursing at the University of Delaware Dr. Bethany Hall-Long, expressed her interest in fostering collaboration between Delaware and Abia.
Dr. Hall-Long highlighted the potential for joint efforts with the Abia State Government in various sectors, including Healthcare and Education.
Dr. Hall-Long also commended Governor Otti’s leadership, noting that the Governor’s two years in office had produced impressive results.
Earlier while Introducing the Governor of the State of Delaware, Senator Uche Ekwunife of Anambra State said the delegation is in Abia to collaborate with the State Government in various areas of the economy.
Sen Ekwunife who commended Governor Otti’s administration for its achievements, especially in areas of Security and Infrastructure emphasized that Abia is a critical player in Nigeria’s economy.
