Abia State Government says it is committed to protecting the welfare and dignity of vulnerable persons in the state.

The Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti stated this during a separate humanitarian visit to the Amaudo Mental Health Facility in Itumbauzo and the Uzuakoli Leprosy Settlement all in Bende local government Area of the state.

Mrs Otti who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs Dr. Maureen Aghukwa assured the residents that they remained an important part of the government’s social responsibility agenda.

She explained that the present administration is guided by values of empathy, inclusiveness and respect for the dignity of all irrespective of status, stressing that governance must spread beyond urban centres and political offices to embrace those in special care institutions.

According to her, the distribution of food items and essential supplies were parts of the government’s broader effort to ensure the vulnerable populations feel supported and valued.

Earlier, the Very Reverend Kenneth Nwaubani, who is in charge of the Mental home, thanked the Governor and his wife for their consistent concern for the facility.

Reverend Nwaubani noted that the road project had reduced the hardship witnessed on the road and restored a sense of dignity to residents and caregivers.

Items donated to the Homes include cash, bags of rice, gallons of vegetable oil, cartons of tin tomatoes and other household items.
