Abia state government has confirmed and condenmed an attack on the advance team from the Office of Governor Alex Otti.
The attack on the advanced team came in the early hours of Tuesday, 2 December, along the Umuowa–Ihite axis in Imo State.
Confirming the attack, a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, said the three-member team was travelling to the Sam Mbakwe Airport when an unidentified gunmen attacked their vehicle shortly before the Sam Mbakwe Airport Junction.
According to the Governor’s Aide, no live was lost contrary to the circulating rumours and explained that Governor Otti’s convoy was not attacked and not part of the movement at the time of the incidennt.
The statement urged the general public never to panic as the situation was under control and described the incident as unfortunate.
