The Wife of the Abia state Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has welcomed the first baby of the year 2026, at Akirika Ukwu Primary Healthcare Centre in Ukwa West Local Government Area with a cash gift of one million Naira.
Receiving baby Oluebubechi Nwatuobi Excessgrace who was delivered at 12:43 in the morning on January 1, 2026 weighing 3kg at birth, Mrs Otti thanked God for the safe delivery of the baby at a Primary Health Centre in the area.
Mrs Otti while describing her birth as a historic and symbolic, noted that patronages of some pregnant women at the PHCs was an indication of steady improvement and upgrading of the Primary Healthcare systems by the present administration in the state.
She encouraged expectant and nursing mothers across the state to have confidence in government-owned health facilities and make proper use of them.
The wife of the Governor who prayed for the baby to grow in peace, grace, and favour urged the parents to raise her with strong moral values that would positively shape her future.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, commended Mrs. Otti for her consistent support to the health sector, and commended Governor Alex Otti’s tremendous reforms in the health sector in the state.
The Matron of the Healthcare centre, Nurse Kasarachi Emmanuel, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for the visit and the thoughtful donations, describing them as timely and impactful.
Also speaking, the parents of the newborn, Mr. Nwatuobi Chiagozie and Mrs. Blessing Chinagozie, from Itungwa in Obingwa Local Government Area who could not hide their joy, thanked Mrs. Otti for her kindness and for making the birth of their daughter a memorable and joyful experience.
Correspondent Peace Agbo reports that the wife of the Governor further presented essential gifts, including bags of rice, milk, groundnut oil, sanitary items, stressing that the gesture was aimed at supporting the mother’s nutrition and overall wellbeing during the nursing period.
