The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Ama, has ordered queries be issued to the Officer in charge of 3-3 Police Station Division and a Deputy Superintendent of Police, while directing the commencement of disciplinary proceedings against an Inspector of Police.
This follows allegations of their inability to account for an armed robbery suspect arrested and brought to the station.
A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga said the directives were issued after the Commissioner personally interviewed the complainant and the concerned officers over a viral video circulating on the matter.
Mr Nnanna described the allegation as serious and capable of undermining public confidence in the Police.
He stressed that the Command would not condone any act of unprofessional conduct, dereliction of duty, abuse of office or compromise of established procedures by any officer.
The Commissioner also directed the X-Squad of the Command to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arrest, detention, documentation and subsequent whereabout of the suspect, including the roles of the officers in the alleged disappearance of the suspect.
Meanwhile the command has reactivated
operational measures to facilitate the re-arrest of the suspect.
