The Anambra State House of Assembly has praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his decisive intervention which helped douse tension and restore normalcy in the Aguleri–Umuoba Anam communal crisis in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The commendation followed a motion sponsored by the member representing Anambra East Constituency, Mr Obi Nweke, during plenary presided over by the Minority Leader, Mr. Johnbosco Akaegbobi.
Mr Nweke said the Governor’s prompt response to the escalation of the crisis, including the deployment of joint security forces to the affected communities, helped restore law and order.
He expressed concern that the conflict, which arose from lingering land and resource disputes, had threatened lives, property and socio-economic activities in the area.
The lawmaker commended the Governor for taking timely steps to prevent further escalation and protect residents of the affected communities.
The House also praised the Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Boundary Committee, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the Nigeria Police Force and other stakeholders for their efforts towards resolving the dispute and promoting lasting peace.
Contributing to the debate, the Majority Leader, Mr Ikenna Ofodeme, Deputy Majority Leader, Mr Jude Akpua, and Mr Jude Umennajiego, also commended Governor Soludo for his intervention.
The lawmakers stressed the need for sustained peace and security in the affected communities, noting that a peaceful environment is critical to economic activities, development and the actualisation of the Soludo administration’s vision of a liveable and prosperous Anambra State.
