The Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has empowered 5,000 residents across the state with equipment aimed at improving their livelihoods, promoting self-reliance and strengthening household incomes.
Mrs Soludo during the presentation of the items said the government will monitor the beneficiaries to ensure that the items were put to proper use.
The programme, organised under the theme Be your brother’s keeper, featured the distribution of ovens and baking equipment, sewing machines, hair dryers, mannequins, generating sets, grills, barbering equipment, makeup kits, refrigerators, piglets, chicks for poultry farmers, grinding machines and washing machines, tilling tools among others.
The Wife of the Governor said the intervention would help beneficiaries to either establish or expand small businesses, create sustainable income sources and achieve greater economic independence.
According to her, the screening process selected beneficiaries from the 376 wards across the state to ensure that the support reached those who genuinely needed it.
She said the aim of the Governor Soludo administration is to see that the people are self-reliant and able to take care of themselves and their families.
Mrs Soludo said the expectation is that the beneficiaries would go back, utiize , train and empower others so that the intention will be achieved.
The wife of the Governor noted that a monitoring mechanism had been put in place at the ward level to ensure the items were used for their intended purposes and to discourage selling them.
Some of the beneficiaries,Mr Charles Okoye from Achina, Miss Blessing Azuka from Dunukofia, and Mrs Ngozi Onwuajanma described the geature as massive and direct empowerment that will be properly utilized.
Other beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the present administration in Anambra State and promised to put the equipment to good use.
