Six adults have appeared before the Anambra State Gender-Based Violence Court in Awka over allegations of defilement, sexual assault, child abuse, and unlawful procurement of abortion for minors.
They are Chinedu Chiekwu arraigned over the alleged defilement of an 11-year-old child, Sunday Anele, arraigned for engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl that resulted in pregnancy; and Ugochukwu Okereke, over allegation of luring a 13-year-old girl to a nearby bush and sexually assaulting her.
Others are Ebuka Nwachukwu over allegation of luring a six-year-old child into his room and sexually abusing her; Ogechi Ofoma for allegedly using a heated kitchen knife to inflict multiple injuries on her five-year-old daughter, Oluebube Ofoma; and Obianuju Okafor, over allegation relating to the unlawful procurement of abortion for her 15-year-old daughter.
The suspects were arraigned before the court by the Anambra State Police Command.
In a related development, the Command said it has investigated a widely circulated video involving a 36-year-old woman allegedly engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct with her child, stressing that the matter has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for necessary legal action, while the suspect remains in police custody pending further proceeding.
