The Deputy National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr Ben Nwoye, has called on candidates of the party in Enugu State to adopt strategic and issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dr Nwoye also condemned tax evasion, describing it as a clog in the wheel of development in any state.
He made the remarks while addressing APC candidates at a one-day strategic retreat organised by the Chief of Staff to the Enugu State Government, Mr Victor Udeh, for key party officials and candidates in the state.
The retreat, with the theme, “Building Synergy for Effective Mobilization, Issue-Based Campaigning and Electoral Success,” was described by Dr Nwoye as timely.
He urged critical actors and candidates to support the party structures, stressing the need for community mobilisers to operate with one message and one direction.
Dr Nwoye advised the candidates to be well equipped with information, confidence, discipline and strategic communication skills to enable them engage the electorate meaningfully.
He described the candidates as ambassadors of the party and the immediate point of contact between the electorate and the party’s platform, urging them to make effective use of support groups, which he said remain indispensable to modern political mobilisation.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, called on the candidates to work with unity of purpose, conduct individual assessments and embark on grassroots mobilisation as well as polling-unit ownership.
Professor Onyia said the candidates must lead with records, citing the achievements of the Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, as evidence of good governance.
Some of the candidates, including the Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Chief Osita Ngwu, and his Enugu North counterpart, Chief Ikeje Asogwa, called for harmony among the candidates and urged them to carry everyone along to achieve victory for the party at all levels.
The convener of the retreat and lawyer, Mr Victor Udeh, commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as reforms and impact in governance, as well as the developmental strides of Governor Peter Mbah.

The APC Chairman, Dr Martins Chukwuweike; the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Uche Ugwu; and Princess Obiajulu Ugwu described the retreat as timely and appropriate, calling for greater synergy among the candidates to achieve the party’s objectives in 2027.
