The Inspector-General of Police’s Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, POCACOV, has called for stronger collaboration and engagement between the Nigeria Police Force and members of the public in achieving a safer Nigeria.
The National Coordinator of POCACOV, SP Orvenonne Ikwen made the call during a Stakeholders Interactive Meeting between POCACOV and other critical stakeholders in Awka.
Mrs Ikwen speaking on “Collaborative Approaches to Strengthening Decurity and Regional Stability : The Role of Stakeholders in Preventing Cultism and Other Social Vices.”, stated that the exercise is in line with the IGP’s ongoing efforts to strengthen preventive policing through strategic partnerships, youth engagement and community participation.
The National Coordinator reaffirmed the Inspector-General of Police’s commitment to preventive policing as a proactive strategy for reducing crime by addressing its root causes through advocacy, mentorship, value reorientation, and community collaboration.
For his part, the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga while welcoming participants on behalf of the Command, emphasized that effective security is a shared responsibility requiring the active support of every segment of the society, and noted that the Command remains committed to fostering stronger partnerships with communities in promoting peace, safety, and sustainable development.
The PPRO further reiterated the resolve of the Command to continue supporting the POCACOV initiative in the State.
In their separate remarks, representatives of sister security agencies, traditional rulers, educational institutions, youth groups, women groups, civil society organizations among others commended the Nigeria Police Force for the initiative, describing it as a necessary development towards addressing challenges of cultism, substance abuse, cybercrime, and other social vices.
They pledged their continuous collaboration and unwavering commitment in supporting POCACOV in achieving its mandate and vision in Anambra State.
