The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspected kidnappers in separate operations across the state.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said on the afternoon of 15th July 2026, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, arrested one Okoye Ibegbunam Chukwuebuka John Bosco, alias “Bone,” aged 32 years.
The arrest was in connection with the kidnapping of a victim at Okpanam in Asaba, Delta State.
The statement said during a search on the suspect, police recovered one locally fabricated pistol, two live rounds of ammunition, one axe, and one Itel Android phone bearing the victim’s photograph as its screensaver.
The suspect allegedly confessed to his involvement in the crime whille efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.
In a related operation, on the evening of 16th July 2026, operatives of the RRS Awkuzu, in collaboration with detectives from Ogbaru Divisional Police Headquarters, arrested three suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate at Ogbaru.
The suspects are Chekwube Chukwu, 32 years, Amarachukwu Nwobosi, 34 years, and Sopuluchukwu Ifeakor, 30 years.
Police also recovered a black Toyota Camry with tinted glasses and Lagos registration number LND 789HR.
The suspects were intercepted while attempting to kidnap a female POS operator at Iyiowa, Odekpe, Atani. The victim raised an alarm, which led to their arrest.
According to the statement, investigation linked them to the earlier kidnapping of another female POS operator at Dominion Park, Bridge Head , Onitsha, on 3rd June 2026.
The victim was abducted, dispossessed of two POS machines and phones, and forced to pay a ransom of Three Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N3,500,000) before her release.
The suspects have allegedly confessed to the crimes and are providing useful information to the police.
The Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to supply timely information to security agencies.
