The Police Command in Anambra State has condemned a vicious attack on a residential settlement in the hinterland of Agu-Ifite, Awka, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
According to a statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives of the Police-led Joint Security Team swiftly responded to a distress call and arrived at the scene to discover a gruesome sight.
Four male victims were found dead with their hands tied behind their backs.
They sustained multiple fatal injuries, including deep machete cuts and blunt force trauma.
Two residential huts in the settlement were set ablaze during the assault.
In a disturbing twist, four cows were discovered dead within the vicinity, while two others had been slaughtered, with substantial portions of meat removed by the attackers.
The Statement said security operatives recovered sacks containing chunks of abandoned meat a short distance from the scene.
According to the Police statement, preliminary findings indicate that the assailants were heavily armed with sophisticated weapons, including AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns, double-barrel shotguns, and machetes.
One survivor who escaped unharmed is currently assisting investigators with vital information.
The Press Release said the Police Command has commenced a comprehensive, intelligence-driven investigation aimed at identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.
The Command has also extended condolences to the affected families through the Sarkin Fulani.
Members of the public have been urged to remain calm and provide credible information that could aid the ongoing probe.
