The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Anambra State Command, has confirmed that two persons sustained minor injuries while four others escaped unhurt in a road traffic crash that occurred at New Parts, Nkpor Bridge, along the Onitsha-Awka Expressway.
The crash, which happened at about one o’clock on Saturday afternoon, involved a Mercedes-Benz articulated truck, two commercial shuttle buses and an Audi Volkswagen car.
According to the FRSC, a total of six male adults were involved in the accident, with no fatality recorded.
The Corps said its rescue team from the Upper Iweka Outpost responded promptly after receiving a distress call and arrived at the scene within minutes to manage the situation.
Preliminary investigation by the FRSC identified brake failure and the truck veering off the bridge as the probable cause of the crash.
The agency explained that before the arrival of its rescue operatives, the injured victims had already been evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
To prevent secondary crashes and ease traffic congestion along the busy expressway, the FRSC said its heavy-duty towing unit was immediately deployed to remove the affected vehicles and clear the obstruction.
Meanwhile, the Sector Commander of the FRSC in Anambra State, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, has wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
Corps Commander Asekhauno also advised motorists, particularly operators of articulated vehicles and commercial transport services, to carry out regular vehicle maintenance and ensure that their braking systems are in good condition before embarking on any journey.
She reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Road Safety Corps to safer roads and prompt emergency response to traffic crashes across Anambra State.
