The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Doctor Somtochukwu Udeze, has called on Nigerians to see good governance as a collective responsibility and recommit themselves to the democratic values of equity, inclusiveness, unity and the rule of law for the nation’s peace and development.
In a Democracy Day message, the Speaker stressed that democracy is sustained when leaders deliver impactful services, programmes and projects that improve the lives of the people, noting that democratic governance should be measured by tangible results rather than the creation of political offices and appointments.
Doctor Udeze maintained that democracy is not a gift but a system earned and sustained through the courage and commitment of citizens to justice, fairness and accountability.
He urged the Federal Government to immortalize individuals who played significant roles in the struggle for democratic rule in Nigeria and called on citizens to continue to uphold democratic ideals while paying tribute to the country’s democracy heroes, especially those who have passed on.
The Speaker also commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for promoting inclusive governance in Anambra State by creating opportunities for children, youths and the elderly to participate in decision-making processes, as well as fostering peace, unity, prosperity and development.
Doctor Udeze further appealed to leaders at all levels to prioritize the welfare of the people through policies and development initiatives aimed at improving their quality of life.
