The Anambra State Executive Council, has approved over One Billion Naira contracts for three major development projects in the State.
They are 801 million naira contract for the construction of a floodwater diversion channel at Ezioko, Oko-Nanka in Orumba North Local Government Area, 280 million naira contract for the supply and installation of new medical equipment and accessories at the General Hospital, Oroma Etiti and 92 million naira contract for general external works and landscaping at the Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe.
The Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor said after the Executive Council Meeting at Government House Awka, that the government will promulgate a new law to protect public properties and regulate the activities of scrap dealers including those handling scrap vehicles.
He explained that the proposed legislation will make it mandatory for the business to be licensed to ensure the monitoring and surveillance of the operators and check vandalism and theft in the state.
Dr Mefo indicated that the council resolved to develop a comprehensive policy on Mass housing to tackle rising rents and encourage stronger public – private partnership in the sector.
The Commissioner said that another key decision of the council is that companies bidding for government’s projects in the state must henceforth show proof of their tax worthiness.
