The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr Somtochukwu Udeze, has highlighted the numerous legislative feats of the 8th Assembly, describing the period as one filled with reasons for celebration by the institution and the people of the state.
Addressing journalists during a press briefing to mark the third anniversary of the 8th Assembly, Mr Udeze noted that the House has remained focused on delivering quality representation, robust oversight, and people-oriented legislation.
The Speaker listed key landmark bills passed by the Assembly, including the Local Government Administration Law, which he said provided a clear framework for effective local government administration in the state.
He also mentioned the Homeland Security Law, which has significantly contributed to tackling insecurity in both public and private facilities across Anambra.
According to the Speaker, the House is set to come up with a comprehensive law legislations include the Investment Law and a legislation that would be addressing issues of high cost of house rents, agents and estate management.
The Speaker said so far over 45 laws have been passed , 42 assented to by the governor, seventeen private member bills passed and over 24 executive bills in the 8th Assembly.
Mr Udeze disclosed that the laws were enacted to support the executive arm and ultimately build the people emphasizing the independence of the House.
The Speaker further outlined the legislative agenda of the 8th Assembly as being centered on addressing the needs of people at the grassroots level through appropriation laws that empower the executive to deliver good governance.
He also revealed that the House has prioritized staff training and capacity building.
Mr Udeze maintained that the only way the state can make sustainable progress is through a cordial relationship among the three arms and tiers of government.
