Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected rapist and armed robber.
The suspect, Okechukwu Chinweko also known as “Bullet” was arrested by the
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in a hideout in Umudike Community in Awka.
A Press Statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga indicates that the 30-year-old suspect was arrested over his alleged involvement in abduction, rape, and unlawful possession of firearms.
The police recovered one locally fabricated Beretta pistol and eight rounds of 9mm live ammunition from suspect during the operation.
Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect was positively identified by a female victim whom he allegedly abducted and raped earlier this month
The victim sustained varying degrees of injuries during the incident before she was rescued by police operatives, while the suspect fled the scene at that time.
The case is being investigated, and the suspect will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.
