Christians have been called to embrace their responsibility of spreading the gospel and living as true disciples of Christ.
The Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Onitsha, Reverend Father Samuel Uzondu, made the call in his homily during the celebration of the Ascension of the Lord.
Reverend Father Uzondu urged the faithful to reflect on Christ’s command in the Gospel of Matthew to “go and make disciples of all nations.”
The Priest, noted that the Ascension reminds christians of their mission as witnesses of Christ through love, obedience to God’s commandments, and service to humanity.
He encouraged worshippers not to be distracted by worldly concerns but remain focused on God’s plan, assuring them of Christ’s promise to remain with His people always.
Father Uzondu prayed God to enlighten the minds of believers and grant them the grace to carry out the mission of evangelization with courage and dedication.
Correspondent Oby Arinze reports that Ascension of Jesus Christ is traditionally celebrated on a Thursday, exactly 40 days after Easter Sunday.
