The Abia state Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has successfully conducted a digital annual school census started in May this year.
Briefing Newsmen at the Government House Umuahia on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu said the exercise was the first of its kind in the past 24 years in the state
According to him, the idea is to generate necessary data that will assist the Ministry in planning and policy-making for Primary and Secondary School categories in the Education sector of the State.
He further announced that the Adult and Non-formal Education Program has commenced in the state stressing that the aim of reintroducing the programme was to ensure that residents who were not privileged to acquire formal Education to access the opportunity.
On infrastructure, the Commissioner said the State’s Ministry of Works engaged in direct labor works in 50 locations across the State during the period under review.
Government House Correspondent Peace Agbo quotes the Commissioner for Information that a total of 4,150 schools with 1,687,326 learners participated in the exercise.
